Corrin Hoegen Wendell, AICP

Founder and Executive Director

Corrin Wendell, AICP is the Founder and Executive Director of Youth Engagement Planning (YEP!), a Community Development Director in Minnesota, Immediate Past Chair of APA’s Women & Planning Division, and a national and international Keynote Speaker. She is a member of American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and is a two-time graduate of The Ohio State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Masters of City and Regional Planning. Corrin's passion for nurturing current and future planners, and her commitment to enhancing the planning profession, were cultivated over a 20-year career spanning diverse planning disciplines including architectural and urban design, regional and land use planning, comprehensive planning, zoning administration, and community and youth engagement. Corrin is a passionate champion for children and her commitment is strongly exemplified through her service to the planning profession including mentorship of students and young professionals, frequent guest lecturing, and delivering keynote speeches across the country and internationally. She has been awarded the American Planning Association (APA) Minnesota Chapter Planner of the Year Award, APA Women & Planning Division Excellence in Leadership Award, Divisions Council Educational Excellence Achievement Award, the Thorton Education Trust Award for Best International Non-Profit, and The Planner’s 2024 International Women of Influence Award.

Through YEP!, she has created opportunities for youth to meaningfully advocate for change in their own communities and the built environment while visiting students in the classroom and partnering with other youth organizations. She tirelessly supports planners and volunteers interested in this mission, conducting workshops, webinars, speaking at conferences, and offering free curriculum, tools & resources. Corrin, along with YEP! is the Author of the newly published children’s book “Ava Tanner, the City Planner.”

Corrin is the Immediate Past Chair of the APA Women & Planning Division, served as Chair for two-terms on the Executive Committee. Corrin created the first-ever "Girls Who Plan" Program, Girl Scouts of America City Planning Patch, and the APA Women and Planning Division Scholarship “Legacy Impact Scholarship” for members who are doing good work in their community, changing the lives of others, and advancing equity. Wendell is an AICP Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) Site Visitor, NPC Session Proposal Reviewer, National Membership Standards Committee member, Foresight and Change Committee member, frequent Planning Magazine Published Author, CM Equity Task Force AICP member, Certified Planning Exam Committee member, former Divisions Council Equity Chair, and a Journal for Planning Education Research contributor.
